Elder Mace from Orem is my companion! He´s a kid who fainted the first time he had to talk in sacrament meeting in Chile! haha- totally fainted. He still hasn't told his parents. We get along pretty dang good except he walks way too fast, I still have MTC legs, (I sat on my butt 16 hours a day!) Elder Sliffe is the only Elder in my district from the MTC with me. My Zone here has about 22 Elders and there are about 8 who only speak Spanish. So Elder Matt Anderson in my zone has a twin and he's from Spanish Fork!
So the Flaite (Chilean gangsters) here are pretty scary haha, they swear at us in English, same with alot of moms- its freaky, haha. I practiced my Spanish with a drunk guy the other night. My mamita (little mom) -she´s the best in the mission (is what i hear), she gives us food and washes our clothes like a pro.
So our area book says we can't be at the top of our area at night! We were caught out there late one night and we both had the worst feeling- just randomly- and we just started running down while we were talking with Gaston.(our ward mission leader) Gaston is this Chilean convert of 3 years. He fell asleep in our lesson the other day, there's just too much to say about him! Lunch here is 3 huge full meals in one with different things, ha! then I'm full of food while I'm walking up sides of mountains and sets of 100 stairs that just go and go and go kinda like my run on sentences. :)
So me and my companion got tear-gassed this week while we were trying to go to interchanges. Tear gas is awesome... My companion was choking and snot was just everywhere! They have huge riots here! over free schooling, Big riots- its pretty intense, it's the only time the police get involved in any crime here. The top part of my area is so bad because people can do what ever they want, there isn't any police for miles.
Okay, so now the driving stories... Since there is no risk of people getting pulled over... They drive really hard and fast. So we take Micro´s everywhere, they're like big school buses. So you have to walk in and give the driver money while holding on to the rails, and they always take off so fast! ha! so the other night I gave the driver money and I turned around to go sit with my companion and the bus jerked and I fell and tried to grab onto the little seat bar. I totally punched an old lady right in the head! hard too! but what made it more intense was, I was like"SORRY!" haha!! No one speaks English here nor do they ever say "sorry" in Spanish. Oh... Good Times.
Oh yeah, so my favorite thing here is Manjar, it's this caramel looking stuff that you can seriously put on anything! Look it up on the internet, its not made in USA because it doesn't pass the health code! haha which means it's amazingly good. Oh, and every morning I open my big bag of yogurt and use it as milk in my cereal, it's so good!!
So I live in an 8-story hotel pretty much. I'm on the 4th floor and out my window I can see the huge ocean! and the beaches and everything! it's so nice.
So I'm learning so many slang words that they only say in Chile:
Bakan-awesome
Fome- Lame
Micro- bus
compadre- Dude
cachai- understand
Como estai - how are you
and they use "po" way to much. por ejemplo: Si,po como estaipo que buenapo claropo, just every ending has "po"
So we knocked on this guys door and straight up asked him if he'd be baptized.
Well there's so much more that happens every day!
Elder Goodell
